How Do I Decide if I Need A lawyer for My Divorce? A Step-by-Step Guide to Making the Right Decision

Many people ask me, “Do I really need to hire a lawyer for my divorce?”

As you might suspect, the answer isn’t always straightforward, so I’ve put together a list of considerations to help you decide what’s best in your situation.

Some of the things to consider include:

  • The complexity of your case
  • Financial considerations
  • The emotional toll of divorce

Check out the blog post for the details!

Do you have a tough question? Ask away. I’ll find the right experts to weigh in and make sure you’re getting the input you need.

Question: We are hoping to handle our divorce without lawyers but don’t know where to start. Are there forms we can use? Answer: Yes! You have many options when filing for divorce in Colorado, and most states have similar resources. Search for Do It Yourself Divorce in your state. There are also many options between completely doing it yourself, and getting some level of support. You may also choose to engage a mediator, a financial professional, such as a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst, or work with an attorney to review your documents, but not for full representation (typically called “unbundled” services). See below for some useful resources.

Here I’ll share some of the books, websites, podcasts and experts to help make your journey a little less shitty!

These are just a few of the resources available to you if you are considering your divorce options.

Please note that you can always reach out to me for a recommendation, whether or not you are a client! I am always happy to share resources. I keep a comprehensive list of vetted divorce professionals for just this purpose!
