How Do I Effectively Prepare for Mediation?

This week I share several reasons why mediation is such an important part of the divorce process, and specific ways to improve your chances for settlement.

I answer common questions about mediation, including:

➡️ What if we don’t reach agreement during the first session?

➡️ What specifically should I do to be ready?

➡️ Who should help me prepare?

➡️ What can I expect during the session?

Check it out! And don’t miss the one tip that might be most important (hint: it has everything to do with your mindset 🤔).

Question:

I’m feeling isolated after my divorce, as many of our mutual friends have distanced themselves. How can I rebuild my social circle and find a supportive community?

Answer:

It’s so understandable that you’re feeling isolated and lonely while navigating this difficult time. Here are a couple ways you can reconnect with old friends and also find new opportunities you might enjoy. First, take the initiative and reach out to someone you haven’t seen for awhile, or a new potential friend you’d like to connect with. Don’t stand on ceremony! Be the one to invite someone for coffee, a walk or to take an exercise class with you. Other options include joining a gym (added benefit of exercise and new people!), taking a class, or volunteering.

The most important aspect of this, and usually the hardest as well, is taking that first step. Once you do, take the win. You are stronger than you think. Remind yourself that this is the beginning of a new chapter where you are totally in charge of your future. It’s worth the effort to find those who support and encourage you, and where you feel welcome. 💪 💝

Here I’ll share some of the books, websites, podcasts and experts to help make your journey a little less shitty!

Are you a man over 40 coping with divorce? I recently had the pleasure of joining David Webb, host of the Don’t Pick the Scab podcast, to talk about the specific challenges this group faces when navigating divorce.

Some things we focused on:

– The importance of building a support system

– How to practice self-compassion

– Celebrating small wins

– Letting go of control over the uncontrollable factors is key to emotional well-being

– Using humor as a powerful tool for coping
