(Because it is, right?!)
I’m confused – what’s the difference between a therapist and divorce coach?
This is a great question that comes up often as people look for guidance during divorce. Both roles provide meaningful support, and ideally everyone could have both on their team.
However, it’s still important to understand the differences between the two so you can understand which professional is best suited for your specific needs and importantly, how best to utilize them.
Check out the post for a list of key differences and some tips on choosing the right specialist to help in your situation. 💝💪

Question:
My new year’s resolution is to improve the way my ex and I communicate but every time I say something nice he ignores it. Now I just feel frustrated for trying.
Answer:
While I absolutely believe you should give yourself credit for working to improve this relationship, you may also need to adjust your expectations. Just because you changed your approach doesn’t mean that he has, or that he understands what is motivating you. If you two have a history of challenging communications, a change might be surprising to him and he probably isn’t sure if he should trust it yet. Consistency is key here – don’t prove him right by abandoning your efforts so soon.
But here’s a more important reason to keep at it: what if you shift your perspective and decide that you are actually making this effort for you, not for him? Can you focus on how you feel when you act with kindness and less animosity – and let go of being invested in an outcome that you can’t control?
No matter what you do or how hard you try you will never be able to force him to react in a certain way. On the other hand, think about how you feel when you do something kind, and let go of expecting anything in return.
That is a resolution that will serve you during and well beyond divorce.
Here I’ll share some of the books, websites, podcasts and experts to help make your journey a little less shitty!
