Do you have a tough question? Ask away. I’ll find the right experts to weigh in and make sure you’re getting the input you need. |
Question:
Has anyone ever helped their kids get a Father’s Day gift for their former spouse after separation? Our kids are still young, and even though we’re splitting up, he’s still their dad. I want to support that bond, but I’m a little nervous about how it might come across.
Answer:
You’re not alone—this is such a common (and thoughtful) dilemma. Wanting to support your kids in celebrating their dad, even during a tough transition, shows a lot of emotional maturity. Letting them pick something small or make a card can be a meaningful gesture for them and that’s what matters most.
As for how it’s perceived, try not to let that steer your choice. This isn’t about making a statement to your former spouse. It’s about helping your kids express love in a way that feels natural and supported. Keep it simple, keep the focus on the kids, and let your actions reflect the kind of co-parent you want to be.
Here I’ll share some of the books, websites, podcasts and experts to help make your journey a little less shitty!

For any of my fellow Peloton devotees – you’ve probably taken a class with Tunde. She’s obviously incredibly strong and I love her smile and dating stories. But you might not know she was once an overweight child who tried as hard as she could to stay out of sight.
Recently she walked the runway with other Sports Illustrated models and she was amazing. Her outward appearance is obviously inspiring – but what I really love is the story she shares in her June newsletter about honoring all the different stages of herself and the courage it took to get to this point.
I also love all the loud, proud love and support she got from her colleagues as she took on this incredible accomplishment. Her team showed up for her with unconditional love and so much enthusiasm.
Is there someone in your life who needs that kind of absolute confidence from you that they can achieve anything? Is there someone who gives that to you? Share it! Let’s get LOUD in support of each other. 💝💪🏼
