💐 Mother’s Day in the Midst of Divorce
Navigating this holiday isn’t easy—but it can be meaningful. Whether you’re the mom or helping your kids celebrate her, here’s how to take the high road (even if you’re not feeling it).
✨ Highlights:
-
💡 It’s not about you—it’s about the kids. Put their emotional safety first.
-
🎨 Help them celebrate mom. Cards, calls, little gifts = big impact.
-
💪 If you’re the mom, lower the pressure. Let go of expectations, plan something sweet for yourself.
-
🌈 Model maturity. Even if it’s tough, your kindness teaches lifelong lessons.
Your grace today becomes your kids’ emotional security tomorrow. 💛

Do you have a tough question? Ask away. I’ll find the right experts to weigh in and make sure you’re getting the input you need. |
Question:
I have no desire to do something for my ex-wife on Mother’s Day, or to help the kids plan something for her, but I feel like you’re going to say I should. Am I correct?
Answer:
Yes, you are. As I discuss in this week’s blog post, helping your kids to celebrate the holiday is a gift to them. Whatever the issues are between the two of you, she is still your kids’ mom, and choosing not to burden your kids with the stress of your conflict is a choice you won’t regret.
And bonus thought – what if this small gesture is the beginning of a new chapter in how the two of you communicate? Can you approach it with that intention?
Try it! I hope it pays off. 💪 💝
Here I’ll share some of the books, websites, podcasts and experts to help make your journey a little less shitty!

It was such a pleasure to join Jackie Pilossoph on the awesome Divorced Girl Smiling podcast. We talked about the benefits of starting the process with a mission statement – one of my favorite tools in this challenging process.
To create your own mission statement, download my free mini-workbook here. It includes a template and examples and lots of other valuable tools to improve communications during divorce. 💪 💝
