Question: My spouse just walked out of our marriage. She blew everything up after 15 years, without trying to fix whatever she feels is broken, and says we have to divide everything. Is that true? It seems crazy to me – she just gets to walk out without any consequence? Answer: In no-fault states like Colorado either spouse can decide the marriage is “irretrievably broken” and file for divorce. There is not a penalty assessed on whoever left first, or because one person or the other didn’t make an effort to go to marriage counseling or otherwise work on “fixing” the marriage. If you can, try to let things settle and focus on taking care of yourself right now. “Consequences” for her will hopefully become less important to you as you do.Here I’ll share some of the books, websites, podcasts and experts to help make your journey a little less shitty!
