Divorce is A Shit Sandwich

(Because it is, right?!)

What is a Blessing? Maybe it’s not what you think…

When was the last time you really thought about the definition of a blessing? Recently, someone shared a beautiful definition with me that I had never heard, and it made me think more about the word and its meaning, and it’s surprising connection to getting through divorce.

Check it out here, and let me know how you define a blessing! 💝💪

Do you have a tough question? Ask away. I’ll find the right experts to weigh in and make sure you’re getting the input you need.

Question:
My kids’ other parent asked me if we can switch the holidays this year. We’ve only been divorced two years and honestly, I don’t want to change the schedule, but I also want to keep our relationship productive and respectful. How can I say no and not cause a big fight?

Answer:

It’s great that you recognize that every choice is an opportunity to build on the relationship with your coparent. However, you don’t have to accommodate every request in order to keep the relationship healthy. Try a message that keeps your boundaries and acknowledges that you’re open to changes when it works for you, i.e.

“I’m sorry, it doesn’t work for us to switch holidays this year, but if there is a particular event or time within the holidays that you’re looking for we can discuss that?”

An alternative message:

“Unfortunately that doesn’t work this year. I’m happy to talk with you about other changes you might want though.”

Here I’ll share some of the books, websites, podcasts and experts to help make your journey a little less shitty!

The holiday season is coming, and it can be one of the most challenging times of the year, especially when you’re also dealing with divorce! But there are simple, effective strategies you can use to help you get through the season with confidence.
