Divorce is A Shit Sandwich

(Because it is, right?!)

Do you want to add a lawyer to your team? How do you find the right person? What questions should you ask?

I recently wrote a blog post, “Do I really need a lawyer for my divorce?” As you might suspect, the answer depends on the specifics of your situation. In my post, I suggested that almost everyone can benefit from an initial fact-finding conversation with an attorney.

But what should that conversation include? How can you tell if the person you’re speaking to is the right one to handle your case?

This week’s blog post gives a list of questions you should ask, and a reminder – you want to think about more than cost as you choose the right representation. Don’t overlook these key issues during interviews.

If you’ve already decided on a lawyer you can still use these tips, (and the Bonus Guide below!👇) to make the relationship productive and efficient as possible!

BONUS: ➡️ Download the free guide I created with family attorney, James Cordes, for five simple, effective ways to maximize the attorney/client relationship.

Do you have a tough question? Ask away. I’ll find the right experts to weigh in and make sure you’re getting the input you need.

Question: Do lawyers usually charge for an initial consult? I want to meet with a few different people but some are charging and others aren’t. How do I know if it’s worth it? Answer: You’re correct that there isn’t a consistent approach to how attorneys handle consultations. Some may limit the time they spend with you (free or paid), others may charge for an hour and still others may give you a free consult for as long as the conversation takes. One way to decide whether or not to pay a consultation fee is to do your homework ahead of time. If the attorney is highly recommended, and seems like a good fit for your situation, maybe it’s worth it. Don’t be afraid to ask around, review websites and bring a list of questions with you when you do meet.

Here I’ll share some of the books, websites, podcasts and experts to help make your journey a little less shitty!
